We are Uphold The Girl Child Organisation, working in the local communities of Kamuli and Buyende Districts — equipping, helping, supporting and enhancing children, with keenness to the girl child, to be knowledgeable, responsible and accountable in all their actions.
We empower them to attain complete "whole" living through ensuring that they are of positive character; apparent with right behaviour and discipline, socio-economic competency in survival skills, and resourceful to self, society and nation.
A Complete Child of Integrity.
We exist to enhance children with the right values and practices, and to impart in them survival skills that can enable them live a complete life valuable to themselves and society.
For generations, society — and in particular the family institution — has always been the centre of instilling acceptable life values and skills, norms and practices in children, which gave a basis and continuity for great future citizenship of the nation.
However, over time the role of the family and society in general to bring up morally right, well-skilled and equipped future citizens has been deteriorating. And though there are efforts by Government, through the education system together with other formal structures and institutions such as children's NGOs, world body programmes, policies and declarations over proper upbringing and care for children, more is still desirable — given the worrying trends in child morals, high levels of "caused and uncaused" school drop-outs with no plan for future survival, rejection and neglect of children by families, and child rights violations including rape, child labour, denial of basic rights, and exposure to sexually abusive practices characterized by sexually transmitted diseases, abortions and early marriages — as well as growing trends in drug abuse coupled with violence and negative behavioural extremism.
Such factors, affecting children — more so the girl child — in our society and even within learning institutions, attracted our concern to get together and take action that can restore the state of children, more so the girl child, so that they can be guided, modelled and supported to grow up and enjoy a complete life of integrity.
As an organisation, our focus on the girl child — both within the community and in school — is because it is our belief that, in spite of existing efforts to better the society's way of life, it is very critical, vital and prudent to focus on bettering the girl child's social-economic wellbeing, as she is the key basis of society's continuity.
The girl child also makes up a key custodian of socio-economic values to be passed on to the next generation.
In fulfilling our call, the boy child is part of our programming — which is helping us achieve effectual impact and change across whole communities, not just among girls alone.
We possess a well set organisational structure under the leadership of the Organisation Board, overseen by the Chairperson. Our team is of integrity — passionate and rich in every identified area of organisation focus — with a heart of love to serve, and a deep desire to touch and change the lives of children from all walks of life.
Our office and outreach points are visible on the ground in Kamuli, where our signboard carries our vision and mission for everyone passing by to see — a daily reminder of the promise we've made to the children of our community.
